I am rebuilding my Audi A4quattro's 1.8T AWM 5 speed manual engine for the first time.?
What things should I look for or expect to have to replace/recondition? I cracked the oil pan and it ran without oil..but the crank bearings didn't spin.
also please email me if you are willing to help with advise during my rebuild. I would greatly appreciate it.
Take off the cam caps on the top of the engine. If any of them are scored, you should replace the engine as a whole. The cams do not use conventional bearings and chances are good that if the top is screwed, then the bottom is worse. I would check this before you attempt to rebuild this unit. It may have just turned into a boat anchor. Good luck!
