what is the serial number of an audi A3 starter motor ?

I wanted to buy a 2nd hand starter motor but when I found a reasonably priced one the dealer asked me for the starter motor serial number, but to find that I'd have to take the car into the garage to gain access. Thanks for any help you can offer x
