vehicle electric work.?

my brother who passed away left me his car. its an 96 audi a4 he didn't have it for long and there is somethings wrong with it i would like to get fixed when i start to drive it. the display screen for the defrosters doesn't come on for about 10 minutes after the car is running. it still works when its not on but you cant see what your doing. also the driver seat control's are motorized but they don't work. where would i go to get these fixed and also will these things be expensive to fix? thanks

Well for sure get a Haynes or factory service manual for that vehicle bec it will help you a lot. A car that age would have several electrical faults , such as those seat motors not working , no1 it could be just a fuse , no2 it could be a bad ground going to the motors, no3 I'd not be surprised if it's got relays in that motor circuit for those seats too, no4 bec of the age again you may have a bad ground wire under that carpet some place too.no5 you could have a bad ground wire or extreme rust or corrusion in a fuse panel or behind the panel, no6 it could be the cluster acting up or a bad ground or feed to the cluster, no6 the comp or computer or module that controls the cluster could be faulty or have a bad connection.
So as you can see it could be several different things but I highly doubt a motor is gone or anything major regarding those seats bec to me it's highly unlikely both motors would be dead at once , unless whatever is feeding them has a fault.I'd suspect for sure both seat motors would have seperate fuses therefore it's probably not a fuse but not impossible both fuses are gone or again a faulty feed to them both.Now if you look at the common sources the motors get thier power from then you have to think that each motor has a common ground junction and thats probably what is causing the problem if it's not a relay or fuse.Again this leads us to think what parts of a car get the most moister and absorb moister , or attract salt too and that leads us to places under the hood or under or beside the dash or fuse panels or under the carpet.
To tell you the best way to go about this really if I had the time on that vehicle I'd really overhaul the whole electrical system head to toe and by then the vehicle would run better and save time in the long run and money on gas.
You really need to shop around call around and if you can find a small family run or small towne car electrical specialist shop then you could make a flat rate deal with them. I'd have the car's full electrical and charging system cleaned and any bad ground connections or contacts on engine block etc over hauled fully.Plus the person if honest is going to tell that the motor problem isn't that hard to repair, be once again I highly doubt both the seat motors would be not functioning due to 2 blown motors .
If a fair shop they'll fix the seats I bet within an hr or less and do the electrical over haul in about 2.5 or 3 hrs tops.But even if it takes them 5 hrs all in all if a fair hrly or flat rate you'll spend about 550.00 or much less but bec it's that make most will up prices way up about 800.00 and at some shops it be well over 1,200.00. On avg most elecrical car specialists or car electrical tech shops charge 100.00 per hr but thats the big shops. Plus you car being that make they tend to charge much more too.
Honestly it's very sad tragic and I'm truly sorry to hear your brother passed on and it's nice to have something that you can share and remember him by and I'm sure he liked that car too. So really if you can efford it go to the real pros or audi shop , otherwise check around and don't panic if you hear crazy quotes lol
