Audi Turbo Timer
Do I need a turbo timer for an Audi a4?

I'm getting an 03 Audi a4 1.8t soon. I never had a turbo car before and am not sure how it works. I read I should let he car idle for a few minutes before and after i turn the car on. I read that since it is a newer car, it's water cooled and I can turn it off right away. Would it be wise to invest in a turbo timer? How does it work and who would I take it to to be installed? Please note that there isn't a custom shop in my town and the closest Audi dealer is over an hour away. Any advice? Also please don't tell me not to buy the car.

Definitely let the car idle on start up, don't just start driving, that's a good idea with any new vehicle. You don't really need a turbo timer but you do need to exercise patience when shutting the car down especially after driving hard. A poor mans turbo timer is to arrive at your destination and open the drivers side door. The alarm warning you not to forget your key will chime for 30-45 seconds or so. Another practice I have is to simply stop driving hard a few minutes out from my destination, coast in neutral, short shift on city streets etc and the oil temps will come down by the time I'm parked. And use synthetic oil, change it regularly but you don't need to be a weenie about it.
